Description
Saturday 22nd March 2025
9am – 5pm
Pirbright (venue TBC)
This sculpture workshop is carefully designed for small exclusive groups to ensure optimal attention from tutors. For this reason I have to enforce a strict cancellation policy which i urge you to read before booking. Last minute cancellations can potentially cause a whole course to be cancelled risking the loss everyones bookings not to mention prepared willow, armatures, venue hire and food preparation.
This is a course in willow sculpture. Unlike a craft such as basketry (where you follow a prescribed method) in this course you will learn how to create layers of shape and how to develop form, as Sara teaches you her unique and specialised techniques of additive sculpture using stitches and weave.
With lots of support, student’s personalized ideas and designs, will be sculpted onto a basic armature of mild steel or hazel, constructed beforehand. Please look at the photos below of some of our previous students creations for ideas of what is possible to make in a day. Realistic outcomes are achieved with smaller sculpture ideas, sizes such as hares, herons, pods, dogs, foxes, owls/birds etc however there may be exceptions to this depending on your ability. You will be guided in your choice by Sara.
Armatures, willow and all materials are prepared and supplied for the day.
My courses mainly take place outdoors at my beautiful venue at Weavers Wood in Pirbright, so warm layers of clothing and suitable footwear is advisable. However if the weather is too severe I will advise of the alternative venue, which is usually the church rooms at our pretty church in Pirbright. You will be notified closer to the date of your workshop.
A light vegetarian lunch is included in the price + plenty of tea, coffee & biscuits
Full cost £175 (balance payable on or close to the workshop date)
(A £75 booking fee is required to secure your place)
Please note that despite the relaxing nature of this artform it is nonetheless quite tiring. If you suffer with pain in your hands, for example severe arthiritus you may find this challenging. I try to make work stations as ergonomic as possible to allow seated and standing work positions.
*Please read our cancellation policy HERE before booking your place.
