Come and learn how to weave one of these beautiful, Catalan trays or tension trays as they’re also referred to.

The name comes from Catalonia, Spain, where the style traditionally originated and was used by local cheesemakers as a draining mat for fresh curds. They are now more commonly made and used the world over as a platter for bread, cheese or fruit.

They are an easy introduction to willow weaving.

Personal touch – Held together entirely by the natural, physical tension of the willow, you can if you wish, include some of your own materials such as Dogwood, Birch even Bramble stems. Bring along some stems of your choice and you can weave them into your tray.

They make a wonderful handmade gift and are a lovely, ‘green’ alternative made purely from natural materials.

This short course is a great introduction to working with willow. You will get a feel for the strength and versatility of willow as a material for craft and sculpture.

This is an outdoor venue at our woodland, Weavers Wood, Pirbright. You will need to wear warm, outdoor clothes in the winter. There are warm refreshments and for colder days a firepit.

If you have severe arthritis or mobility issues you may find this workshop challenging as we will be working with some thick willow stems.

Group bookings welcome. this course is only viable if at least 8 people attend.
