Saturday 16th November 2024

9.30am – 5pm

Weavers Wood – Pirbright

Guest Artist – Sara Abbott

A one day course at Weavers Wood, with guest artist and maker Sara Abbott
The ancient and yet simple design of frame baskets is found throughout the world and throughout time. Working with willow and foraged materials, this one day course will connect you to your ancestors and will leave you with the knowledge to carry on using the pattern in your own creative practice. It is a perfect entry into the craft of basket weaving yet also a strong foundation for artworks too.
Sara has been making baskets for ten years alongside other artistic disciplines. She will guide you, weaving in amongst her teaching, the notions a simple basket can have in these Anthropocene days. And that by using such baskets for their original purpose, we can all strive to use them to Harvest Honourably, whether in shops or in the wild.
The day will start at 9.30am. A simple vegetarian lunch being provided at 1pm. There will be constant hot/cold drinks available too. But please bring anything you think you might ‘fancy’ during the day. We should finish at 5pm
We will be working outside (under a tarp if the weather is bad) so please wear old, comfortable clothes and plenty of layers. You will need to be able to work standing and have mobility and strength in both hands. All materials and tools will be provided and you’ll be going home with a basket.
